My Love Affair With.... SUMMER

I love summer.  I love everything about it.  I love the long days, the sun, the heat.  I love that we always seem to be busy and each day has endless possibilities.  And I think my hatred for winter and the fact that my office is freezing all summer make my love for summer even more pronounced!

Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World
with my husband's family

This year we are not taking a summer vacation.  We went to Walt Disney World for a few days in the spring for Star Wars weekends.  Jason, my husband, is a huge fan of Star Wars and has been wanting go back to this annual fan fest for a long time.  And, we are going to back to Walt Disney World later this year to experience all the holiday festivities! So, we decided instead of taking another vacation, we would keep busy on the weekends. And we have.

Drew with his favorite, Babe Ruth, at the Baseball Hall of Fame
(despite the face, he was actually happy!)

So far this summer, we spent 4th of July weekend at my parents’ house in Ulster County, NY (I’m not going to say upstate, because it’s not THAT FAR AWAY!), we spent another weekend at my parents’ property in Central New York and went to Baseball Hall of Fame (now, THAT’S upstate!), we pretended to be tourists in NYC visiting The Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, and having dinner in Times Square and we’ve seen several movies- Inside Out, Minions and Pixels- (Inside Out was my favorite!!!). But this weekend we had nothing planned.  It was kind freeing.

Even though I live and work in New York, this was my first visit
to the Statue of Liberty

So, what did we do?  Not much!  We sat outside and enjoyed our yard, the kids played video games, we ate some home cooked meals, I even took a nap!

On our free weekend, I enjoyed a nice, quiet breakfast on the patio

I often ask- why does summer fly when winter seems to drag on FOREVER??? I guess it’s because we’re so busy in the summer and hardly leave the house in the winter unless we have to (at least I don’t!). Even during a heatwave, you won't hear me complaining, i'm just secretly thankful it's not snowing!

Where will the rest of our summer take us???

It’s the beginning of August, so we still have a month before the kids go back to school- and we have a lot left to do- Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, the aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut, another trip to my parents’ property upstate, and my husband’s parents are visiting from Florida for a week! While I’m looking forward to all of it- it was nice to take a break!

Now.. back to summer!!!!
